Terms and Conditions
This page contains important information about the terms and conditions under which we offer our tuition and training services.
In order to ensure you receive the best experience with Become a Genius Tuition,
please ensure you have read and understood these terms before booking a tuition or training session.
Cancellation and Rescheduling Policy
It’s very important that you make every effort to attend your tuition or training sessions. You must contact your tutor as soon as possible if you need to cancel or reschedule a session for any reason.
You can submit a request to cancel or reschedule a session using our cancellation form, which you can find by clicking on the button below:
Cancelling and Rescheduling Sessions
Notice Period
You must give at least 72 hours’ notice to cancel or reschedule a session.
Unless the 14-day statutory cooling-off period applies (see the section below for details), you must also give a satisfactory reason why you want to cancel or reschedule the session.
If you don’t provide enough notice and/or a satisfactory reason, your cancellation or rescheduling request will be denied.
Subject to the statutory cooling-off period, the tutor’s decision to allow or deny a cancellation or rescheduling request is final.
The rescheduling of any session is subject to availability. Unfortunately, we cannot move any existing bookings to accommodate rescheduled sessions. Doing so would be unfair on the students who have booked those sessions.
Statutory Cooling-Off Period
For private tuition sessions, you have a statutory right to cancel a booked session for any reason within 14 days of booking the session, provided that the total price of the sessions you’ve booked (including any premiums or travel charges) is more than £42.
In this circumstance, you’ll be entitled to a full refund of the session price, and don’t have to provide a reason for the cancellation.
The 14-day cooling off period does not apply for business training sessions, or for any bookings where the total price for the sessions booked is £42 or less.
Refunds and Fees
Refunds for Cancelled Sessions and Rescheduling Fees
The refund you will receive for cancelling a session depends on how far in advance you cancel it.
If you reschedule a session with fewer than 7 days’ notice, this will also be subject to a rescheduling fee.
The table below sets out the details of our refund policy for cancelled sessions, as well as our rescheduling fees:

If you don’t attend a session and don’t cancel or reschedule it within the permitted notice period, then unfortunately we cannot offer a refund.
Rescheduling Premium Sessions
If you reschedule a session from a time where a premium charge does not apply (Monday-Friday 8am-8pm) to a time where it does, you will need to pay the additional premium charge.
If you reschedule a session from a time where a premium charge applies to a time where it doesn’t, and have already paid the premium charge, we’ll refund you the additional premium charge minus the rescheduling fee if it applies.
You can find out more about when premium charges apply on our Prices & Fees page, which you can find by clicking on the link below:
For the avoidance of doubt, we calculate the rescheduling fee based on the price of the session before the rescheduling.
Restrictions on Cancellation and Rescheduling
Cancellation and Rescheduling Limits
As well as the rules set out above, the following limits on cancelling and rescheduling sessions apply:
- Once a session has been rescheduled, it cannot be rescheduled again.
- If you have booked multiple tuition sessions in a single booking, you may only cancel or reschedule one session in that booking.
- You may only cancel or reschedule up to 2 sessions within any 90-day period.
If there are genuine exceptional circumstances which mean you need to exceed these limits, your tutor may relax the limits. This will be at their sole discretion and as a one-off.
Illness and Unforeseen Circumstances
If you can’t attend a session in person because you’re unwell, or because of unforeseen circumstances such as a pandemic or emergency, you may, at your tutor’s discretion, attend the session online instead if you wish.
Unfortunately, we will not be able to issue any refund in this situation.
Group Sessions
So that we treat all students attending a group session fairly, additional rules apply for cancelling or rescheduling group sessions:
- We can only reschedule a group session if all of the students due to attend the session agree to the rescheduling.
- If a student can’t attend a group session, the session will go ahead as planned with the remaining students.
If you are one of the remaining students, we won’t charge you any additional fees in this situation, despite the smaller group size.
If the tutor has to cancel or reschedule
If your tutor can’t attend a session, they will let you know as far in advance as possible.
In this situation, you’ll have the right to reschedule the session for free or cancel it for a full refund.*
* Exceptions apply in cases of ‘force majeure’. Please refer to section 5 of the full terms and conditions for more details.
Student Conduct
We aim to create a safe, supportive and professional environment in order to provide the best tuition for our students. As a student, it’s your responsibility to behave in a way that supports this aim to ensure that you get the most from your sessions.
We therefore expect all of our students to:
- Arrive on time for every session
- Bring all equipment needed for the session
- Listen to the tutor and follow their instructions at all times
- Focus on the content they’re learning for the whole session
- Always try their best
- Behave in an orderly and polite manner at all times
- Treat other people and their belongings with respect
- Be supportive of other students
- Ask the tutor for help if they’re unsure about anything
- Not interrupt or distract the tutor or other students
- Complete practice tasks between sessions to the best of their ability

Additional Conduct Terms and Conditions
Mobile Phones
It is strictly prohibited to use a mobile phone during a session unless your tutor is teaching you how to use the phone as part of the session.
In an emergency, your tutor will contact one of the student’s parents or emergency contacts using the contact details provided at registration.
Food and Drink
You may drink from a bottle of water or juice during a session should you wish.
No other food or drink may be consumed during a session.
Punctuality
Successful learning requires effort and commitment on your part as well as the tutor’s. As part of that, it’s your responsibility as a student to make sure you arrive on time to every tutoring session.
If you’re late for a session, then unfortunately we cannot extend the session to compensate or make up the time at a later date, as this would be unfair for both your tutor and for any students your tutor is due to tutor after you.
If you’re late for a group session, we will have to start at the scheduled time without you. We will not be able to wait for you to arrive, as this would be unfair on the other students.
If you are more than 10 minutes late for a session, you will unfortunately not be allowed to participate in the session.
You will not receive a refund for any tutoring you miss due to arriving late.

Students who fail to abide by the conduct terms above may be asked to leave the session and/or barred from attending or booking further sessions.
No refunds will be given in this situation.
Booking and Payment Terms and Conditions
Maths Tuition, Excel Tuition and Computer Training
Booking Tuition Sessions
If the total price of the sessions you’re booking is more than £42, you must book these sessions at least 14 days in advance. This is to allow for the statutory 14-day cooling off period.
Otherwise, you must book sessions at least 72 hours in advance (including trial sessions). This is to give your tutor time to prepare for your sessions.
If you’ve already registered, you can click on the Book button below to book a session using our booking form.
If you haven’t registered with us yet, please click on the Register button below to register first.
Once you’ve booked a session, you’ll receive a booking confirmation email. This will contain your booking reference number and invoice.
If your tutor can’t make your requested time, they’ll contact you to let you know and propose an alternative time. Where possible, this will be as close as possible to your requested time, or the same time on another day. Your tutor won’t propose a slot that has a higher price unless they have no other slots available.
Initial Consultations
You must book an initial consultation at least 24 hours in advance.
To book a consultation, click on the Book Consultation button below. You don’t need to register with us to do this.
The TutorBird Student Portal
We manage private tuition bookings using the software TutorBird. You can find out more about TutorBird here.
Once you’ve registered, you’ll get access to the TutorBird Student Portal, which allows you to connect to our TutorBird account and view your sessions, as well as pay for your sessions online by card. We’ll give you instructions on paying for your sessions after you register.
You must pay for each session in full prior to the start of the session.
Statistics Training and Excel Training for Businesses
You must book training sessions for businesses at least 7 days in advance.
To book sessions, please contact us by clicking on the button below or using any contact details we’ve given you:
You can provide a list of participating employees to your tutor before your first session. This way, you’ll know how much you’ll pay for each session in advance. However, anyone not on the list will not be allowed to take part, unless they’re replacing someone on the list.
Alternatively, your tutor can count the number of attendees during the session and charge for each person who attends. With this option, note that anyone who attends will be counted, even if they’re only there for a short time.
Your tutor will ask you before your first session which of these two options you’d prefer.
You will receive an invoice for the session by email within 24 hours of the end of the session.
Our standard payment terms are 14 days from the date on which we send you the invoice. We will list this date as ‘Invoice Date‘ on the invoice.
If you require longer payment terms, please be aware that this may incur additional fees, as well as stricter enforcement in the event of non-payment.
Accepted Payment Methods
We accept payment online by card or by bank transfer. If you’re using the TutorBird Student Portal, you will be directed to a secure payment portal through which you can make your payment.
The details for making a bank transfer will be printed at the bottom of your invoice.
Unfortunately, we cannot accept cash payments.
Additional Terms and Conditions
No Guarantee of Grades or Results
Whilst your tutor will do everything they can to teach you or your child to the best of their ability, prepare you or your child for an exam and help you or your child get the top grades, they cannot do the exam for you.
For this reason, we cannot offer any guarantee as to the grades or results you or your child will achieve.
Your tutor may give their opinion as to what grade they think you or your child will achieve, but such a comment is just that – an opinion.
Remember – your tutor can give you the tools you need to succeed in your exams, but you’ve still got to get the job done in the exam hall on the day!
Student and Client Safety
At Become a Genius Tuition, protecting our students’ and clients’ safety is our utmost priority.
We therefore ask all students and clients to abide by a few simple rules to help keep everyone safe. We’ve outlined these on our Safeguarding page, which you can access by clicking on the button below:
On the Safeguarding page, you’ll also find information on what to do if you’re worried about the wellbeing of a student.
Complaints and Disputes
If you wish to make a complaint about the service you have received, or about a student, client or parent, please contact your tutor in the first instance using the contact details they’ve provided you with.
If you haven’t registered with us yet or you need to make a formal complaint, click on the button below to access our Complaint Form:
